Unforgettable win Aging 2.0’s best global start up award 2017

UK based Unforgettable, unforgettable.org, has beaten off worldwide competition to be named ‘best in the world’ for its products and services to help people living with dementia.

Unforgettable.org impressed more than 30,000 voters and a team of expert judges to be voted the world’s best new innovator in the ageing market at last week’s annual Aging2.0 OPTIMIZE conference in San Francisco.

Unforgettable is an innovative online marketplace for products and services to help people with dementia. It was founded two years ago by James Ashwell who cared for his mother Fay when she was diagnosed with early onset dementia. The business is now backed by Mckesson Ventures, Impact UK and Bridges Ventures.

The Aging2.0 Global Start-up Search (www.aging20.com) recognises early stage companies who are creating technologies to support older people. The winning prize includes a $10,000 cheque which Unforgettable will be using to ‘give back’ to its customers, many of whom are caring for loved ones with dementia.

‘This recognition means a huge amount to our small and dedicated team,’ Ashwell said. ‘The prize money will be used to thank our customers by offering Unforgettable experiences to families affected by dementia, and hopefully making a few dreams come true.’

The other four finalists included an app that helps older people keep on top of their bills and a glove that reduces hand tremors for people with Parkinson’s. Entrants for the Aging2.0 annual competition came from 12 countries and more than 20 countries were represented at its two-day event in San Francisco last week, with nearly 1000 start-ups in attendance.

Aging2.0 founder Stephen Johnston said: ‘Unforgettable is a fitting winner, highlighting the innovations that are happening around the world. We need to make this a global conversation. ‘

Unforgettable’s mission is to make life a bit easier for everyone affected by dementia and memory loss, by developing high quality products and services and providing solutions to every day challenges. One of its latest innovations is Puzzles & Pastimes, a unique puzzle and crossword book created in partnership with Puzzle Media. ‘Boredom can be particularly challenging during the winter months, so we wanted to find a simple, low cost way to help,’ explains James Ashwell. Puzzles & Pastimes is carefully designed to provide stimulation and enjoyment for people with dementia and to suit all levels of need.  Priced at £5.99, it comes with a free guide for family carers and has already received much praise from customers since its launch earlier this month.

Unforgettable’s other innovations include day clocks which simplify time for people with dementia and help to ease confusion and anxiety, and GPS tracking devices which enable people with dementia to remain independent whilst providing reassurance for their loved ones.
