When Christine Stone discovered she was pregnant, she knew her mum would be thrilled, but she also knew she might have to tell her the happy news more than once. Christine’s mum has lived with dementia for eight years and her short term memory is virtually non-existent.
So Christine decided to film her mum’s reaction each time she broke the news. Partly so that her unborn daughter would always know how happy her grandmother was when she heard the news, and partly to raise awareness of the daily reality of life with dementia.
‘I wanted to bring awareness of this disease,’ Christine explained. ‘Yes, it’s sweet seeing my mum get so excited over and over again, but it’s so sad at the same time.’
The resulting video is poignant, funny at times and filled with love.
