Unforgettable is one of the pioneering B Corp social businesses in the UK. Find out what this means and why it really matters to us
What is a B Corp?
Certified B Corporations or B Corps are businesses that meet a higher standard of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. They believe business should be a force for good.
They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on ALL stakeholders (which includes workers, suppliers, community and the environment), and not, like typical businesses, just their shareholders. We aspire to benefit all involved. This means that we do not need to maximise shareholder returns at the expense of other stakeholders.
The B Corp slogan encourages all companies ‘to compete not just to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world’.
Why are we a B Corp?
Because we were started to address a social problem and want to ensure that our social mission – to improve the lives of all those affected by dementia – will always be the core of what we do, both now and in the future.
Whatever steps we take as a business, we will always take into consideration the impact that our decisions will have on all people involved, and strive to ensure they are in everyone’s best interests.
Unforgettable is one of the founding pending B Corporations in the UK. We are joining a community of like-minded organisations that form part of a global movement for change.
We intend to share best practices, resources and skills with other members of the B Corp community, as well as attract socially-minded investors and individuals who share our values.
How are we measured as a B Corp?
In November 2016, we were officially annouced as a B Corp (we had previously been a B Corp (Pending) because we had to be operating for at least 12 months before we could qualify for full B Corp status. We completed a B Impact Assessment, and achieved a score of 80 or above to become fully B Corp certified.
The Assessment included establishing an Open Book Management System to ensure total financial transparency, publishing an Annual Impact Report to demonstrate our performance against our social targets, developing an Employee Handbook to ensure we are a great employer, and Supplier Screening and Tracking to manage environmental quality.
